Oliver Habekost began his professional career in 1994 with an apprenticeship as a chemical laboratory assistant. After successfully completing his apprenticeship, he pursued further training as a state-certified technician specializing in chemical engineering with a focus on environmental analysis at the Bergius School in Frankfurt am Main.


From 1998 to 2005, he worked as a chemical laboratory assistant and chemical technician at Degussa AG, now Evonik, at various locations worldwide.


At the end of 2005, he entered politics and until 2012 managed the largest sub-district office of the South Hessian SPD in terms of membership. During this time, he also completed a part-time Master Professional of Technical Management degree.


In 2012, he continued his professional career, starting as Head of Corporate Development at Kreiswerke Main-Kinzig. In addition to developing corporate strategies, he was also responsible for establishing new business areas, including the development of a purely green generation portfolio consisting of wind power and photovoltaic plants.


Against this background, Oliver Habekost held positions as authorized signatory and managing director at the subsidiaries in the following years: Versorgungsservice Main-Kinzig, Kreiswerke Verwaltungsservice, Naturenergie Main-Kinzig, and Regionalverkehr Main-Kinzig. Furthermore, he is a member of the supervisory board of Gasversorgung Main-Kinzig, which he jointly owns with Mainova AG (50% stake).


Since October 1, 2021, Oliver Habekost has been the managing director of the Kreiswerke group of companies and leads the company as sole managing director.
