Professor Dr. Marc Oliver Bettzüge is the Director and Managing Director of the Energy Economics Institute at the University of Cologne (EWI). He also holds a Chair in Economics, Energy and Sustainability at the University of Cologne. In addition to his management responsibilities, Professor Bettzüge focuses primarily on fundamental institutional, economic, and strategic issues in the energy sector and energy policy.

In August 2020, Professor Bettzüge was appointed by the German Federal Government as a member of the Expert Council on Climate Issues. From 2011 to 2013, Professor Bettzüge was a member of the German Bundestag's Enquete Commission on "Growth, Prosperity, and Quality of Life." He also serves on a wide range of committees and advisory boards.

After studying mathematics and economics at the Universities of Bonn, Cambridge, and Berkeley, and earning a doctorate in financial theory, he worked as a researcher at the Universities of Bonn and Zurich, as well as a management consultant at internationally renowned consulting firms. Prior to his appointment at the University of Cologne in 2007, Professor Bettzüge was a partner and managing director of the Boston Consulting Group (BCG).
