Frank Sieren
Journalist, bestselling author and one of Germany's leading China experts
Frank Sieren is one of Germany's leading China experts. He is a columnist for Handelsblatt and has lived in China for almost a quarter of a century. He is the author of numerous TV documentaries for ARD and ZDF, as well as co-founder and moderator of the Bosch Foundation's Media Forum China.
Frank Sieren's critically acclaimed books on China regularly become bestsellers and sparked a broad debate on Asia in Germany. His analyses convinced Helmut Schmidt to co-author a book with him, "Neighbor China." Schmidt granted Sieren access to previously unpublished transcripts of his numerous conversations with top Chinese politicians.
After studying political science with a focus on economics at the University of Trier and subsequently at the Otto-Suhr-Institute of the Free University of Berlin, Frank Sieren worked for, among others, the Süddeutsche Zeitung, Die Zeit, Der Spiegel and Deutsche Welle during his journalistic career.
Frank Sieren has lived and worked in Beijing since 1994 – no other Western business journalist has lived in China longer. Through his reporting on the People's Republic and its political and economic developments, he not only helps us understand how China operates, but also shows us how we in Germany need to reposition ourselves to avoid being marginalized.
