Prof. Dr. Axel Weber

President of the Center for Financial Studies at Goethe University Frankfurt and former President of the Deutsche Bundesbank

Professor Dr. Axel Weber is one of Europe's most renowned economists, combining academic excellence with many years of experience as a central banker and global bank manager. He is President of the Center for Financial Studies at Goethe University Frankfurt and served as President of the Deutsche Bundesbank from 2004 to 2011. In this role, he significantly shaped German and European monetary policy and played a key role in managing the global financial crisis.



From 2012 to March 2022, Axel Weber was Chairman of the Board of Directors of UBS Group AG, where he was responsible for the bank's strategic realignment. Under his leadership, UBS was successfully positioned as one of the leading global wealth management banks. His achievements were recognized with numerous awards, including "European Banker of the Year."

During his career, Professor Dr. Weber was a member of numerous international bodies, including the ECB Governing Council, the Executive Board of the Bank for International Settlements, and the G7 and G20 Ministerial and Governors' Meetings. Furthermore, he remains active in international think tanks and advisory bodies on issues of financial stability, monetary policy, and the global economic order.
